Leadership Amarillo & Canyon Announces New Executive Director

 

Amarillo, TX – August 25, 2025 — Leadership Amarillo & Canyon (LAC) is proud to announce the appointment of Missy Macon as its next Executive Director, effective September 2, 2025.

Since 1981, Leadership Amarillo & Canyon has strengthened the community by providing leadership development opportunities for individuals who desire to make a difference. Each year, the program (August–May) introduces participants to leadership skills, networking, community awareness, and social consciousness. Through monthly sessions, participants gain firsthand insight into local businesses, industries, nonprofits, and civic leadership while engaging with the pressing social and political issues that shape the Amarillo and Canyon area.

Leadership Amarillo & Canyon has been guided since 2012 by Lisa Blake, who has served as Executive Director with distinction, continuing the program’s legacy of cultivating strong leaders.

​

In the search for its next Executive Director, the LAC Board of Directors carefully reviewed a wide pool of applicants, narrowing the field to six highly qualified finalists. Among them, one candidate stood out far above the rest — Missy Macon.

​

Macon brings a wealth of experience in leadership development, program management, and community engagement. A graduate of West Texas A&M University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications, she has spent nearly two decades in leadership, education, and nonprofit development. Most recently, she served as Director of Resources at Fairly Group, and prior to that as Leadership Coordinator and Program Director for Rogers LEAD WT at WTAMU, where she mentored students, managed community service initiatives, and coordinated leadership conferences. Her professional background also includes roles with Make-A-Wish® North Texas, Amarillo ISD’s GEAR UP grant program, and Panhandle PBS.

“Leadership Amarillo & Canyon has an incredible history of shaping leaders who serve and strengthen our community,” said Macon. “I am honored to continue that tradition and build upon the foundation laid by Lisa Blake and so many others before me.”

The Board of Directors and alumni of Leadership Amarillo & Canyon look forward to welcoming Macon into this new role as the program begins its next chapter of service to the community.
